Stanley Anderson describes himself as an Agricultural Engineer. His objective is to create chemical solutions aimed at the modeling and processing of farm and biological wastes to serve other purposes.
He is currently pursuing his Doctor of Philosophy in Biosystems Engineering and is seeking to gain experience in the private sector before opening his own agricultural research station.
Hailing from a small development in Newark, Delaware, Stanley spent much of his childhood and teenage years studying obscure facts in history and science to try to understand how things work in the present. This led him to pursue a career in engineering at the University of Delaware. He believed it was palace where he could hone his skills before pursuing a career in renewable energy. Stanley believed that the proper management of power plant and heat engine design could help biofuels be used more regularly and even found the prospect of solar thermal energy to be a promising use of steam engines.
As he began to pursue his graduate education, he recognized that the demand was not what was expected and had to change his major to move in the more versatile field of biological processing. Having to in some ways, restart his academic career, he began to embrace more dynamic principles in statistics and modeling. This led him to finalize his dissertation topic in 2019 to “The Use of Bayesian Statistical Models in Bioprocessing Kinetics with Limited Data.” Stanley believes that the skills developed in this venue will be invaluable to small scale producers and hopes this information will one day be used to yield competitive advantages.
During this dive into renewable energy, Stanley encountered many strong economic criticisms to the field. This did not deter him from study, but merely changed the scope of his ambition. Now focused on local and small-scale solutions, he also incorporated the study of economics and business dedicated to devising ways to make the use of waste products more productive. He believes he will have the science for these problems solved in that area. He views SmartUp as an opportunity to learn and capitalize on some skills he already has and hopes that the work in business will ensure he has the flexibility he will need in the future.
