Research Highlight: Assessment of the SBIR and STTR Programs at NIH

CREATE’s Faculty Director Maryann Feldman Co-Chairs the Committee on the assessment of the SBIR & STTR Programs. The committee recently released their report on the SBIR & STTR programs at The National Institutes of Health (NIH). This assessment analyzes (1) the effectiveness of NIH's processes and procedures for selecting SBIR and STTR awardees; (2) the effectiveness of NIH's outreach to increase SBIR and STTR applications from small businesses that are new to the programs, from underrepresented states, and from woman-owned and minority-owned businesses; (3) collaborations between small businesses and research institutions resulting from the programs; and (4) a range of direct economic and health care impacts attributable to the programs. › Read More

 

NCGrowth and Historic Princeville Work to Identify Market Opportunities for Newly Acquired 53-Acre Parcel

Established after the civil war, Princeville is the first town incorporated by African Americans in the United States. Located on a bend of the Tar River, Princeville has flooded nine times since 1800. Hurricane Floyd in 1990 broke the town’s levees and caused water to rise 23 feet above Princeville’s streets. While some residents have moved away due to repeated flooding, many remain and are working to make the town more environmentally and economically resilient. NCGrowth is working with Princeville this semester to conduct a market analysis, incentives research, and create marketing materials for an up and coming 53-acre commercial district in Princeville. › Read More
