In NC, the outdoor recreation industry generates $12.1 billion in total outdoor recreation value added, 152,000 direct jobs, $5.8 billion in wages in salaries, 2% of GDP. In addition to its direct economic impact, expanding the outdoor economy can help to diversify local economies and improve quality of life, attracting entrepreneurs and employers from other sectors. During Spring 2021, the Hickory Nut Gorge Chamber of Commerce approached NCGrowth about mapping the region’s existing and potential outdoor recreation assets and businesses in order to prioritize short-term and long-term recreation based economic development projects. › Read More

Freedom Air uses state of the art technology and techniques to provide energy efficient solutions to its mostly residential customer base. Last year, NCGrowth-SmartUp Analyst, Oluwandara (Dara) Abimbade, a Learning Sciences doctoral student at Clemson University, converted Freedom Air’s face-to face HVAC Technician Certification Training Course into a robust hybrid online learning environment. › Read More
