CREATE & AOM TIM: Emergence: Organizations, Markets, Platforms and Regions Conference

CREATE, in partnership with the Academy of Management (AOM) Technology and Innovation Management (TIM) division, is pleased to organize the “Emergence: Organizations, Markets, Platforms, and Regions” conference. The conference seeks to unpack the processes of emergence and re-emergence that are core to creating economies with inclusive prosperity. To this end, leading interdisciplinary researchers will discuss four subthemes pertaining to the intertwined levels wherein emergence occurs: organizations, markets, platforms, and regions. By advancing research and fostering a community of scholars, we hope to collectively take a step towards better understanding of technology and innovation management dimensions for creating prosperous economies.

The conference will be held at the University of North Carolina—Chapel Hill’s Rizzo Center on August 26-27, 2021. The interactive conference format features the accumulated insights and future research opportunities in keynote speeches and panel discussions, while also showcasing the cutting-edge research in paper presentation sessions. In addition to in-person attendance, we plan to live stream sessions to the TIM community and others interested in conference content. Please save the date and stay tuned for the conference schedule and details.

In conjunction with the conference, a TIM paper development workshop will be held on the afternoon of August 27. The workshop seeks to provide mentorship to doctoral students and junior assistant professors on their ongoing research related to the general technology and innovation management topics. In the workshop, each participant will receive developmental feedback on the complete draft of their research article. The tentative list of mentors includes the TIM division representatives and research committee.  Please submit your application at: https://forms.gle/wyK5115oLPvir67v8.

Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis starting July 19 and will continue until we reach capacity. In the case of space limitation, priority will be given to advanced doctoral students who are approaching their job market year. The selection of workshop participants will be based on submitted abstracts, and full articles will be required by August 6. Admitted workshop participants are also invited to attend the conference. Participants are responsible for their travel and accommodation arrangements in Chapel Hill.
Although this conference is organized under the flagship of the TIM division, participation is not limited to TIM members. Members of other AOM division or scholars who are not members of AOM are also encouraged to apply. Please direct your questions to emergence_conference@kenan-flagler.unc.edu.
We look forward to welcoming you to this conference and workshop. More details can be found on our conference website.
